Description
This is a Hepatoprotective medication. It is used to dissolve certain gallstones and prevent them from forming. It is also used to treat a type of liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis. It helps break down the cholesterol that has converted into stones in your gallbladder thereby dissolving the stones.

| Why Prescribe | Prescribed to treat dissolution of cholesterol-rich gallstones, prevention of gallstones in patients undergoing rapid weight loss, primary biliary cirrhosis. |
| Recommmended Dosage | Dissolution of cholesterol-rich gallstones- Adult- 6 to 12 mg/kg daily as a single dose at bedtime. Primary biliary cirrhosis- Adult- 10 to 15 mg/kg daily in 2 to 4 divided doses. Gallstones in patients undergoing rapid weight loss- Adult- 300 mg twice daily. |
